The convention reflected the diocese’s cultural diversity, with participants representing multiple linguistic communities, including Bodo and Santhali. Such gatherings reinforce the Church’s role in promoting unity, social harmony and collective well-being.

The Church actively engages in social initiatives, including child-care programmes, elderly and widow support, literacy drives, women’s healthcare services, safe drinking water and sanitation projects and anti-drug awareness campaigns, demonstrating its commitment to holistic development and community welfare.

Inaugurating the convention, His Eminence Joshua Mor Barnabas, Archbishop of the Jorhat Archdiocese, emphasised the importance of unity in building a healthy society. “When people turn away from God and attempt to live independently or in isolation, it often results in self-centeredness and disunity. Faith-filled gatherings like this are therefore both a sacred practice and a critical need of the hour,” he said.

The event was also attended by Rev Fr Sijo Pandapallil, PRO of the Church and Director of BCMCH; Rev Fr Ajay Tulsiary, Regional Vicar of the Diphu Region; Rev Fr Ghanakanta Basumatary, Diocesan Vicar of Kokrajhar Diocese and Aryom Babina Lepcha, Secretary for Women’s Ministry, Gangtok Diocese.
