SIVASAGAR, Jan 28: Hundreds of people joined the first-ever Hindu Sanmilan held at Sivasagar Boarding Field on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, the Satradhikar of Bagharganya Satra near Jakhalabandha and noted public speaker Hiru Prasad Mahanta said that as part of a fast-developing Bharat, Assam too is achieving significant gains on many counts. He stated that this progress was possible because the Assamese nation was built on the foundation laid by Sankardev, Madhobdev and Sukapha, not Sankardev and Ajan Fakir.
Another invited speaker, Prantiya Mantri of Bharatiya Kisan Sangha, Krishna Kanta Bora, said that modern Indian society needs five-fold transformation comprising family enlightenment, environmental protection, self-awakening, civic responsibility and social harmony.
Presiding over the meeting, Manoj Kumar Borthakur, executive president of Itihash Sankalan Samity, Sivasagar chapter, said that all Hindus, along with non-Hindus living in Bharat, need a stronger cohesive bond to build an enlightened society with a futuristic outlook.
A collection of articles published on the occasion of the RSS centenary year was released by Hiru Prasad Mahanta..
The programme was initiated by Chandutpal Bora, who also introduced the guests. Cultural programmes including gayan-bayan and diha nam enthralled the gathering.
