SIVASAGAR, Jan 30: Hundreds of people participated in the first-ever Hindu Sanmilan held at the Sivasagar Boarding Field on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The event witnessed a large gathering of people from different walks of life, reflecting wide public interest and participation.
Addressing the gathering, the Satradhikar of Bagharganya Satra near Jakhalabandha and noted public speaker Hiru Prasad Mahanta said that as part of a fast-developing Bharat, Assam too is achieving significant gains on many fronts. He stated that this progress was possible because the Assamese nation was built on the strong foundations laid by Sankardev, Madhobdev and Sukapha and not on Sankardev–Ajan Fakir ideology.
Another invited speaker, Prantiya Mantri of the Bharatiya Kishan Sangha, Krishna Kanta Bora, said that modern Indian society requires fivefold transformation, which includes family enlightenment, environmental protection, self-awakening, civic responsibility and social harmony.
Presiding over the meeting, Manoj Kumar Borthakur, executive president of the Itihash Sankalan Samity, Sivasagar chapter, said that all Hindus, along with non-Hindus living in the great country Bharat, need a stronger cohesive bond to build an enlightened society with a futuristic outlook.
On the occasion, a collection of articles published to mark the centenary year of the RSS was released by Hiru Prasad Mahanta. Satradhikar Hiru Prasad Mahanta and Kanuram Deka, Pranta Saha Byabostha Pramukh, lit the ceremonial lamp. The function was initiated by Chandutpal Bora, who also introduced the guests.
The programme also featured cultural performances such as gayan-bayan and diha-nam, which enthralled the gathering and added a spiritual and traditional touch to the event.
