GUWAHATI, Feb 1: Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on Sunday said opposition parties in Assam are uniting against the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections, projecting Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi as their Chief Ministerial face.
The decision came after a crucial meeting of seven opposition parties at Orchid Park in Golaghat aimed at strengthening coordination. Akhil Gogoi confirmed Gaurav Gogoi agreed in principle, though seat-sharing arrangements are still being finalised.
For unity, Raijor Dal plans to contest only 15 seats, despite having wider organisational strength across Assam. Gogoi criticised the BJP government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for divisive politics, stating the opposition will focus on fighting corruption and communalism while bringing people from all communities together. The move reflects growing opposition consolidation ahead of the state’s crucial Assembly elections.
