DHUBRI, May 11: Vote counting for the Panchayat elections in Dhubri district began at 8:00 AM on Sunday and is progressing steadily across multiple designated centers.

With a record voter turnout of 88.63%, authorities are working around the clock to ensure a smooth and transparent counting process.

Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath, speaking to the media, confirmed that the counting is being conducted in shifts to efficiently manage the high volume of ballots.

“The counting is being done shift-wise. We are hopeful that we can wrap up the counting by 12th evening,” he stated.

The phased approach is aimed at maintaining order and accuracy throughout the process.

To facilitate smooth operations, specific venues have been designated for different regions.

For the 12 Zilla Parishad constituencies under Dhubri Sadar, counting is being held at BN College, while the Bilasipara CDC area, which comprises 4 Zilla Parishad constituencies, is conducting its count at the Bilasipara CDC office.

Similarly, Chilarai College has been assigned as the counting center for 4 Zilla Parishad constituencies under the Golakganj CDC.

Tight security arrangements are in place at all centers to prevent any disruption.

Election officials, support staff, and agents representing contesting candidates are stationed at the venues, closely monitoring the tallying of votes.

The Panchayat elections in Dhubri are among the largest local electoral exercises in the state, encompassing 20 Zilla Parishad constituencies, 10 Anchalik Panchayat segments, and 128 Gaon Panchayats.

Voters also elected 1,280 Gaon Panchayat Members (Ward Members), making the exercise a cornerstone of grassroots democracy in the region.

Dhubri Sadar remains a key focus area, accounting for 12 Zilla Parishad, 6 Anchalik Panchayats, and 88 Gaon Panchayats.

In terms of candidature, 69 candidates are contesting for the Zilla Parishad seats, 417 candidates for Anchalik Panchayat seats, and a massive 3,999 candidates are vying for positions across the Gaon Panchayats—highlighting the competitive nature of the polls.

As of the time this report was filed, the counting was proceeding without any reported irregularities. With the final results expected by May 12 evening, all eyes remain on the outcome that will define the leadership and governance framework across Dhubri’s rural landscape for the upcoming term.

Our Margherita correspondent adds: BJP-supported candidates have secured a clean sweep in all 13 gaon panchayats and four ZPC seats under the 83rd Margherita Assembly constituency.

The counting of votes, which began this morning, concluded with a decisive victory for the BJP alliance across all the contested panchayats.

In the Borgolai Gaon Panchayat, former president Mira Subba, vice-president Jhuma Sen, and ward members Swapna Chetry Bhujel, Ranjit Chetry, Bhanu Tanti, Lakshmi Jaishi, Khusbu Kar, and Shantanu Debnath emerged victorious.

Additionally, Congress candidate Rupa Chetry and Raijor Dal’s Sarada Chetry won seats in the same panchayat.

In Makumpathar, a BJP stronghold, all eight BJP-supported candidates retained their positions.

Commenting on the results, Rajya Sabha MP Rameshwar Teli said that the BJP’s sweeping victory across all 13 gaon panchayats and four ZPC seats was made possible due to the commitment and delivery of promises by the BJP-led governments at both the Union and State levels.

“In the coming days, more development work will be carried out without delay. BJP is the only political party that works sincerely and confidently for the people of our country,” Teli stated.

Our Sivasagar correspondent adds: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears poised for a sweeping victory in the Panchayat elections within the 96 Sivasagar Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), as per results available at the time of filing this report.

BJP-backed candidates have so far secured victories in 54 out of 90 Panchayat wards where results have been declared, indicating a strong performance by the ruling party in the region.

Of the four Zila Parishad Constituencies (ZPCs) in the LAC, BJP candidates are leading in Desangmukh, Morabazar, and Rongpur.

In the Jakaichuk ZPC, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate has taken the lead.

The Congress and Raijor Dal have shown poor electoral performance, reportedly due to internal rifts among the major opposition parties.

Despite AGP being an ally of the BJP, the party, under the leadership of Pradip Hazarika, has fielded its own candidates in most Panchayats in the Jakaichuk and Morabazar ZPCs, signaling friction within the alliance.

In Sivasagar Sadar Constituency Development Committee (CDC), a total of 1,74,617 voters were eligible to vote, including 87,063 males, 87,553 females, and one transgender voter.

On polling day, held on May 2, a total of 1,29,092 votes were cast, comprising 63,639 male voters, 65,452 female voters, and one transgender voter, marking a turnout of 73.93 percent.

Counting is currently ongoing at the Sivasagar Government HS School.

In the Nazira CDC area, 1,19,363 voters out of 1,57,418 exercised their franchise, registering a turnout of approximately 75 percent.

The polling figures include 58,087 male voters out of 77,222 and 61,276 female voters out of 80,196.

Meanwhile, in Demow CDC, the total number of voters stood at 1,71,648, including 85,068 males and 86,578 females.

A total of 1,27,843 votes were polled, with 62,419 male and 65,424 female voters participating, recording a turnout of 74.48 percent.

Counting continues across all centres, and final results are expected to further reflect the BJP’s strong electoral presence in the Sivasagar district.

Our Nagaon correspondent adds: The counting of votes for the Panchayat Election 2025 is underway across four designated centres in Nagaon district, amid tight security and peaceful conditions.

The centres are located at Nagaon Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Nagaon Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Raha College, and the office campus of the Commissioner of Kaliabor Co-district.

Security arrangements have been intensified at all the counting venues to ensure a smooth and transparent counting process.

District Commissioner and District Election Officer Narendra Kumar Shah has been visiting the centres regularly to monitor proceedings.

He interacted with officials and staff at the venues, reviewing the measures in place to ensure transparency, impartiality, and safety throughout the process.

A brief moment of tension was reported at the counting centre for No. 24 Bajiagaon Zila Parishad Constituency, located at Nagaon Government Girls’ HS School.

Counting there began around 10 AM, two hours later than scheduled.

A conflict reportedly broke out between workers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Indian National Congress (INC), resulting in a brief chaotic scene and alleged manhandling. The situation was quickly brought under control by counting officials and security personnel.

Despite the incident, counting has continued in an orderly and peaceful manner across the centres.

According to the Election Cell, early trends indicate that candidates from the ruling BJP-led alliance are leading in the majority of Zila Parishad (ZP) and Anchalik Panchayat (AP) seats across the district, with only a few exceptions favouring opposition candidates.

Final results for the Zila Parishad Constituencies are expected later today.

Our Jorhat correspondent adds: The BJP and its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), are on track to secure a comprehensive victory in the 2025 Panchayat elections in Jorhat district, as per counting trends observed till Sunday evening.

Counting is underway at the Jorhat Boys’ Higher Secondary and MP School, where the BJP-AGP alliance has already taken a substantial lead in 12 Zila Parishad Council (ZPC) seats under the Jorhat, Mariani, and Teok assembly constituencies, following the completion of the first round of counting.

Sources further indicated that the ruling alliance is also ahead in the remaining four ZPC seats under the Titabar assembly constituency, which falls within the Titabar co-district.

In terms of Anchalik Panchayat (AP) results, the alliance has claimed four wins and is leading in the remaining 26 seats under Titabar.

Out of 60 AP seats spread across Jorhat, Mariani, and Teok constituencies, the BJP has already won 17 seats while the AGP has secured one, with the alliance leading in the rest.

Friday’s polling sealed the fate of 2,190 candidates (excluding 48 who were elected unopposed) from across the four assembly constituencies in the district—Jorhat, Teok, Mariani, and Titabar.

A total of 6,00,773 voters participated in the democratic exercise.

Supporters of the BJP and AGP have gathered in large numbers outside the counting centre, waiting eagerly for final results.

Of the four assembly constituencies in Jorhat district, three—Jorhat, Mariani, and Teok—are currently held by the BJP and AGP.

Titabar is the lone constituency represented by the Congress.

Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, comprising 10 assembly segments across the districts of Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, and Charaideo, is represented by Gaurav Gogoi of the Congress.
