Gauhati University launches GUenARK 2026 to boost local enterprises, startup integration

GUWAHATI, Feb 2: Gauhati University on Monday launched a two-day programme, GUenARK 2026, aimed at strengthening local enterprises and integrating them systematically into the region’s growing startup ecosystem.

The initiative is being organised by the university’s Innovation, Incubation and Startup Cell as a confluence platform bringing together innovation, entrepreneurship and enterprise development from across Assam and the North East.

In his inaugural address, vice-chancellor Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta underscored the role of capacity building in achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

He said Assam possesses abundant local talent, innovative ideas and entrepreneurial energy, which, if channelised through the right platforms, can transform the state into a major hub of enterprise and innovation.

He added that programmes such as GUenARK 2026 not only build confidence among young entrepreneurs but also help local enterprises position themselves on the global stage.

Chief guest Dr Jeevan Basavaraj, IAS, Secretary, Department of Innovation, Incubation and Startups (DIIS), Government of Assam, highlighted the evolving startup ecosystem in the state and described innovation as the key driver of the future.

He said supportive policies, access to modern technology and strong institutional backing could enable Assam’s youth to convert ideas into scalable ventures.

The programme features two panel discussions along with a range of competitive and interactive activities, including an Ideathon, Hackathon and Startup Showcase, designed to encourage problem-solving, collaboration and innovation-led thinking.

More than 1,500 participants—including students, innovators, startup founders and guests from across Assam and the North-Eastern region—are taking part in the event.

Distinguished guests present included Subir Sinha, vice president (Rural Incubation), Professor Ratul Mahanta, Chairman of IIS, Professor Prasanta Sharma, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management, and Professor Kumananda Tayung, Dean of the Faculty of Science, along with other eminent personalities, research scholars and students.

Through focused discussions, competitions and networking opportunities, GUenARK 2026 has emerged as a dynamic platform for innovation and entrepreneurial collaboration, reaffirming Gauhati University’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant and inclusive startup ecosystem in the region.
