GUWAHATI, Feb 2: Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday attended a reception programme organised by the Directorate of NCC North Eastern Region at Lachit Ghat to felicitate National Cadet Corps cadets who returned after participating in the Republic Day Camp (RDC) 2026.
Congratulating the cadets for representing Assam and the North Eastern Region at the national celebrations, the Governor said holding the reception at the historic Lachit Ghat carried deep symbolic value, recalling the legacy of Lachit Borphukan and his supreme devotion to the nation.

He described the NCC cadets as torchbearers of this heroic tradition and the face of New India—disciplined, energetic and committed to national service.
Appreciating their performance during the Republic Day celebrations, Acharya said marching on Kartavya Path is both an honour and a responsibility.
He urged the cadets to uphold the highest standards of discipline, conduct and excellence throughout their lives.
Highlighting the role of NCC cadets in nation-building, the Governor referred to their contributions in disaster relief, civic action, social service, environmental initiatives and adventure activities.
He called upon them to remain alert and always prepared to serve the nation with sincerity and dedication.
Referring to the 2026 Republic Day celebrations, Acharya said the cultural presentations from the North East drew nationwide appreciation.
He specifically mentioned Assam’s tableau, “Terracotta Craft Village”, which showcased the traditional clay art of Dhubri district and reflected the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Recalling that this year’s Republic Day was dedicated to 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, the Governor quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as saying that “Vande Mataram is not just a song, but an energy and a resolve of dedication to Mother India.”
He added that India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation is being driven by conscious, committed and service-oriented youth.
Stressing that India’s greatest strength lies in its youth, the Governor urged the cadets to make discipline the foundation of their lives, place the nation above self and act as responsible citizens.
He expressed confidence that NCC cadets would play a leading role in building a strong, prosperous and self-reliant India.
The Governor also felicitated NCC cadet achievers of RDC 2026 on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Anurag Vij, Additional Director General, NCC North Eastern Region; KJ Singh, Deputy Director General; NC Khuman, Group Commander, NCC Guwahati, along with NCC cadets and other dignitaries.
Earlier in the day, the Governor also interacted with 18 National Service Scheme volunteers from the North Eastern Region who had participated in the Republic Day Parade Camp 2026, during an interaction programme held at Lok Bhavan, Assam.
