Padmashree Pakhila Lekhthepi inaugurates Nagaon University cultural procession

NAGAON, Feb 3: Renowned folk singer and Padmashree awardee Pakhila Lekhthepi inaugurated the second-day cultural procession competition of Nagaon University’s Annual Week 2026.

In her address, Lekhthepi emphasised the harmonious relationship between the hills and plains of the region and recalled her close association with singer Zubeen Garg. She congratulated the participating teams and thanked the University for honoring her.

The competition was judged by film director Prabin Hazarika and Chidananda Deb Goswami, senior programme executive officer at Guwahati Radio Centre. Vice-Chancellor Dr Hitesh Deka, Incharge Registrar Dhrubajyoti Baruah, faculty members and over 2,000 students attended the event.

Nineteen departments participated, showcasing vibrant displays of music, dance and traditional attire, reflecting the rich and diverse culture of Northeast India. The event was widely appreciated for fostering cultural awareness and highlighting student talent.
