GUWAHATI, Feb 3: The proposed India–US trade deal could emerge as a major catalyst for India’s electronics, semiconductor and technology ecosystem by improving market access and strengthening technology collaboration, Ashok Chandak, president of SEMI India and IESA, said on Tuesday.
Chandak said smoother flows of capital equipment and advanced technologies, along with initiatives such as iCET and TRUST, would help build trusted supply chains and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
“The agreement significantly enhances India’s attractiveness as a global manufacturing and innovation hub,” he said.
He added that the deal would accelerate semiconductor design and manufacturing, boost value addition in electronics, and expand collaboration across areas such as artificial intelligence, data centres and advanced manufacturing.
According to him, this would also lead to the creation of high-skill jobs while positioning India as a strategic and reliable partner in the global technology value chain.
Highlighting the scale of opportunity, Chandak said the vision of achieving USD 500 billion in bilateral trade between India and the US could translate into over USD 100 billion in trade for the electronics and semiconductor sector alone.
