TEZPUR, Feb 6: Tezpur College, one of Assam’s premier higher education institutions, will conclude its Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a two-day colourful programme on February 8 and 9. Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu will attend the concluding events, while noted writer, thinker and critic Mayur Bora will deliver the keynote address.
The college, which has completed 60 years, has lined up a series of academic, cultural and commemorative events. The celebrations will begin on February 8 with the hoisting of 60 flags by former students, followed by a book fair and exhibition featuring students from various Tezpur schools. The Diamond Jubilee souvenir will also be formally released. Special programmes include “Guru Bandana,” honouring retired teachers and an interactive session titled “Nostalgia” featuring former students. The evening will witness a cultural programme presented by alumni.
On February 9, students will participate in a colourful morning procession, followed by the main public meeting at noon attended by Dr Ranoj Pegu as chief guest and Mayur Bora as keynote speaker. Distinguished guests will include Director of Higher Education Pomi Baruah and Dr Binita Bora Dev Choudhury of Tezpur University.
The second day will also see the release of the college’s annual magazine ‘Abhiyatri’, the institutional newsletter ‘The Heritage’ and four other new books. A cultural programme by teachers, non-teaching staff and students will begin at 5 PM, with popular singer Bhaskar Opswel performing in the evening.
College Principal Dr Manoj Kumar Hazarika, addressing a press conference on Thursday, appealed to former students and the public to attend and extend their support to make the celebrations a grand success.
