Karbi Anglong Bodo Sahitya Sabha hands over charge to new committee

HOWRAGHAT, Feb 9: The Karbi Anglong District Bodo Sahitya Sabha (KADBS) on Sunday formally handed over charge to its newly elected committee at a ceremony held here, marking an important organisational transition for the literary body.

The programme, held on February 8, was presided over by outgoing district president Arbind Uzir and moderated by secretary Sumeswar Basumatary.

After presentation of the audit report and settlement of accounts by the outgoing committee, charge was officially handed over to the newly elected president, Rituraj Basumatary.

The event also featured an awards distribution ceremony aimed at encouraging youth and recognising contributions to Bodo literature and society.

The Najarendra Mushahary Award was presented to Ganesh Basumatary, while the Student Inspiration Award was conferred on Ringkhang Daimary.

The Thauzendra Basumatary Literary Award was awarded to Dadere Mainao Bodo.

In addition, social workers Phukan Khakhlary, Biraj Basumatary and Samrat Brahma were felicitated with traditional Bodo aronai in recognition of their financial contributions towards student scholarships and welfare initiatives.

A key highlight of the programme was the release of a Bodo poetry collection titled Gwrbw Singao Gwmwr Rwngwi Mwnse Mung, authored by poet Krishnamohan Basumatary.

The book was formally released by Bilimohan Khakhlary, executive member.

The ceremony was attended by several prominent literary and social figures, including Dr Premanand Mushahary and Ratneswar Narzary, both Sahitya Akademi Award winners, Bisweswar Basumatary, former vice-president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Kalyan Rabha Brahma, president of the All Bodo Students’ Union, and noted poet Thaneswar Goyary.

The programme concluded with speakers expressing optimism about the new committee’s tenure and reiterating the commitment to the promotion and preservation of the Bodo language and literature in Karbi Anglong district.
