The distribution was carried out in line with the Assam government’s initiative to grant land pattas to tea workers who have been living in labour quarters for generations. The process was formally launched by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier in the day at a tea garden in Chabua, Dibrugarh district.

Kaziranga MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa attended the launching ceremony as chief guest at Cinnamara Tea Estate, while Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi was the chief guest at Teok Tea Estate. The Chief Executive Member of the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council (TKAC), Kumud Kachari, attended the programme at Kusum Tea Estate and Chairman of Jorhat Zila Parishad Surajit Saikia was present as chief guest at Boloma Tea Estate.

It may be mentioned that the Assam government, in December 2025, passed a law in the Assam Assembly paving the way for granting land pattas to workers living in labour lines. The legislation aims to enable housing ownership for over 3.33 lakh families residing in 825 tea gardens across the state.
