DIBRUGARH, Feb 15: BJP national president Nitin Nabin will visit Dibrugarh on February 18 to participate in a Prista Pramukh Sanmelan to be held at Khanikar.
Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia confirmed that Nabin will be on a two-day tour of Upper Assam from February 18. Saikia visited Dibrugarh on Sunday to review preparations for the visit.
Speaking to reporters, Saikia said Nabin will attend the Prista Pramukh programme at Khanikar field on February 18 and is scheduled to visit Tinsukia the following day, where he will pay homage at the maidam of Matak king Sarbananda Singha.
He said this will be Nabin’s first visit to Dibrugarh and Tinsukia after assuming charge as the BJP’s national president.
During the tour, he is expected to participate in several organisational meetings, including a BJP zonal meeting involving members from seven to eight districts, and an interaction with leading citizens of Dibrugarh.
Saikia added that Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will also be present at the Prista Pramukh Sanmelan.
Party sources said that ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, Nabin’s visit is significant as he is expected to hold discussions with mandal presidents from 18 mandals across six constituencies in Dibrugarh to chalk out the party’s strategy.
The BJP has maintained a strong presence in Upper Assam since coming to power in the state and is aiming to consolidate its position in the region in the next Assembly polls.
