DIPHU/HAMREN, Feb 20: The Karbi Anglong district administration on Friday undertook a series of initiatives focusing on social welfare and electoral preparedness, led by District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia.
At a coordination meeting in Diphu, Saikia reviewed preparations for the upcoming Assam 2.0 programme, expected to roll out within the next two to three weeks.
He stressed the need for systematic planning to manage anticipated participation and directed officials to complete venue arrangements, accommodation, transportation and security protocols.
The meeting also emphasised strengthening coordination among departments, including police, women’s groups and civil stakeholders, to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.
Meanwhile, the District Child Protection Unit organised a sensitisation workshop for media personnel as part of the 90-day “Suroxita Xaishab Sonali Axom” campaign.
The session focused on child rights awareness, prevention of trafficking and child marriage, and responsible reporting practices to safeguard the dignity of victims.
Officials also highlighted the role of the 1098 Child Helpline as a round-the-clock support system for children in distress.
In Hamren, preparations for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections gathered pace with the announcement of Additional First Level Checking of electronic voting machines and VVPATs for the 111-Rongkhang (ST) and 112-Amri (ST) constituencies.
The checking will be conducted by a team of ECIL engineers under the supervision of the Additional District Commissioner (Election), with representatives of recognised national and state political parties invited to monitor the process to ensure transparency.
Officials said the initiatives reflect the district administration’s dual focus on strengthening social welfare measures and ensuring readiness for the upcoming elections.
