DIPHU, Feb 21: In a proactive push toward administrative readiness and social welfare, District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, Aranyak Saikia, IAS, chaired a high-level review meeting on Friday evening to oversee preparations for the upcoming Assam 2.0 programme.
The session focused on tightening inter-departmental synergy to ensure the high-profile initiative, scheduled for rollout within the next two to three weeks, proceeds without a hitch. The meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including departmental heads, police officials, women’s groups and civil society representatives.
Saikia conducted a detailed review of key areas including logistics and infrastructure, covering venue management and necessary physical developments; security and transport, focusing on deployment strategies for security personnel and streamlined transportation for attendees and guest management, with the DC mandating superior accommodation and hospitality standards given the high influx of participants expected from across the region.
“The administration is committed to systematic planning. Every department must ensure the timely completion of their assigned tasks to reflect the excellence of the Assam 2.0 vision,” Saikia said during the briefing.
Parallel to the administrative review, a sensitisation workshop for media professionals was conducted at the Circuit House, Diphu, as part of the “Suroxita Xaishab Sonali Axom” (Safe Childhood, Golden Assam) 90-day campaign. Organised by the District Child Protection Unit in collaboration with the District Administration and the State Child Protection Society, the programme aimed to equip journalists with the tools for ethical reporting on sensitive issues.
The workshop focused on key areas including child rights and safety, covering issues of abuse, trafficking and child marriage; ethical reporting, urging media to maintain the privacy and dignity of minors while reporting on crimes and raising awareness about the 1098 Child Helpline, a 24/7 toll-free service for children in distress.
