DIPHU, Feb 25: Amid preparations for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) concluded its interim budget session during the 253rd Council sitting, ensuring financial continuity for the region.
The session was presided over by Speaker Raju Tisso and focused on securing the Council’s financial operations during the transition into the new fiscal year.
Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang, who also holds the Finance portfolio, presented an interim budget of ₹5,653.51 lakh for the financial year 2026–2027.
The proposal was unanimously approved by the House.
According to details placed before the Council, the interim allocation will cover expenditures up to July 31, 2026, primarily focusing on the payment of salaries for government employees and meeting essential administrative expenses.
During his address, CEM Ronghang described the interim budget, commonly referred to as a “Vote on Account,” as a strategic and necessary measure.
With the state heading into the Assembly election cycle, the Council aimed to ensure that administrative functions and public services continue without disruption.
“This interim budget is essential to ensure that salaries and vital expenditures are met seamlessly until July 31, as we navigate the upcoming election cycle,” Ronghang stated.
Earlier in the day, Speaker Raju Tisso appointed two Council members to assist in the formal conduct of the session to ensure adherence to legislative procedures.
The unanimous passage of the interim budget reflected consensus within the Council to maintain administrative stability and fiscal discipline in the hill district during the election period.
