HOWRAGHAT, March 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) witnessed a significant boost in Karbi Anglong as hundreds of members from opposition parties joined the ruling party during a mass joining programme held at the Thedong Primary School playground under the 17-Socheng Dhenta Council Constituency.
The event, held in a remote hilly area about 16 km from Parkhowa, saw members from the Indian National Congress, Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) and All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) formally joining the BJP.
The programme was attended by several leaders from the region, including Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, who attended the event as the chief guest and welcomed the new members into the party.
Among others present were Howraghat MLA Darsing Ronghang, KAAC executive members Ritesh Enghi and Kache Rongpipi, and Roland Killing, president of the BJP East Karbi Anglong District Committee.
Addressing the gathering, Tuliram Ronghang said developmental initiatives undertaken by the government had encouraged people even in remote areas to support the BJP.
He added that the joining of supporters from opposition parties reflected growing public trust in the “double-engine” government and would further strengthen the party’s position in the Socheng Dhenta Member of Autonomous Council constituency.
