JORHAT, March 10: The Governor of Assam and Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, attended the university’s 5th convocation on Tuesday, conferring degrees on 360 graduating students. Addressing the graduates, he emphasised the transformative power of knowledge, saying it is the greatest asset for individual and societal progress. He expressed confidence that the students would make meaningful contributions to society and wished them success in their future endeavors.
On the occasion, social worker Riniki Bhuyan Sharma was awarded an honorary D.Litt in recognition of her contributions to social service and Assam’s socio-cultural development. The Governor lauded her life of service as an inspiration to women across the state. Highlighting the importance of women’s education, he noted that Assam Women’s University plays a key role in providing quality higher education to women from rural, tribal and urban areas, while promoting research, innovation and skill development in line with the National Education Policy.
Encouraging graduates to embrace lifelong learning, the Governor urged them to pursue their goals with dedication, integrity and confidence, adapt to new technologies and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development. The convocation address was delivered by renowned Khasi poet and scholar S S Streamlet Dkhar, with MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi and university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar and Registrar Dr Binod Chandra Bora, also in attendance.
