Residents of the Hojai LAC had been eagerly waiting for the BJP’s pick and various scenarios had been drawn up for months. Finally, the Saffron Party has chosen its candidate.

However, MLA Ghosh pointed to his work on roads, schools, the university and flood relief. Dev highlighted his developmental works during his tenure as MLA (2016-2021) and his later role leading the minority development board. He built hostels and health centers and organised large-scale cultural events for the welfare of linguistic minorities. After the BJP’s declaration of candidature for the 2026 elections, Dev’s supporters in the Hojai LAC shared sweets and celebrated in markets and other areas by bursting crackers. BJP member Rahul Roy said, “Dev’s skills and work for linguistic minorities give us hope. Roads, schools and health services will get better.

This is a good choice by BJP headquarters.” One well-wisher of Shiladitya added, “Dev will improve our area; he is a dynamic leader.”On the other hand, Ghosh’s fans looked sad but stayed quiet. According to political experts in Hojai, the BJP has caught the pulse of the Hojai people and heard their voice. It is definitely a masterstroke by the BJP to give the ticket to Shiladitya Dev. Dev told the media, “We will develop Hojai with everyone’s cooperation.” Notably, the election fight in Hojai has begun.
