HAFLONG, March 20: The political atmosphere in Dima Hasao has intensified as Daniel Langthasa officially filed his nomination for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026 from the 113-Haflong (ST) constituency, representing the National People’s Party (NPP).
Following the filing of his nomination, Langthasa led a massive rally through the main streets of Haflong, accompanied by a large number of supporters and party workers. Earlier, he held a brief meeting with NPP members, where discussions focused on safeguarding tribal rights, protecting the provisions of the Sixth Schedule and addressing concerns over development in the district.
Langthasa’s entry marks a significant moment, as he becomes one of the prominent NPP candidates in Dima Hasao, with considerable influence in Haflong and other parts of the district. His strong grassroots connection, particularly among the youth is expected to make the contest highly competitive.
The upcoming election is shaping into a triangular battle, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (Congress) also fielding their candidates. While the BJP is banking on its organisational strength and governance agenda, the Congress aims to regain its traditional support base in the hill district.
With the NPP entering the fray with momentum, the stage is now set for a high-voltage electoral contest in Haflong, as all three parties gear up for a decisive political showdown.
