AIZAWL, March 20: Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Lal Thanzara on Friday launched a scathing attack on the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), claiming that the public’s high expectations for the government have turned into “widespread disappointment”.
Speaking at a party gathering held at the Congress Bhavan here, Lal Thanzara said that after two years in power, the ZPM has “failed” to live up to its seraphic and clean image.
The Congress president alleged corruption regarding the state’s rice supply chain.

He criticised the government’s decision to increase rice prices, a move that impacts every household in the state, while simultaneously awarding supply tenders to a private firm he claimed was not the lowest bidder.
“Our leaders have been closely monitoring the rice supply process and have uncovered staggering irregularities,” Lal Thanzara alleged.
He alleged that while 16-wheel trucks are capable of carrying 700 rice bags per trip, records allegedly showed that the private firm used to transport as few as 16 bags.
“These are clear indicators of potential corruption,” the Congress president said, adding that the Val Upa Council, the ZPM’s self-appointed watchdog, should be notified of these findings. Despite repeated attempts, officials couldn’t be contacted on the Congress allegations. (PTI)
