Training begins in Kokrajhar for vote counting

KOKRAJHAR, April 29: In preparation for the counting of votes for the Assam Legislative Assembly Election, 2026, training sessions for Counting Supervisors, Counting Assistants and Micro Observers commenced in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday to ensure a smooth, accurate and transparent counting process. The training programme has been conducted at Kokrajhar University, where participants were comprehensively briefed on their roles and responsibilities, covering all critical aspects of the counting process. Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers attended the sessions and provided necessary guidance to the participants. A subsequent round of training is scheduled to be held on May 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM onwards at the same venue.

Earlier on Tuesday, District Commissioner and District Election Officer, Kokrajhar, Dr P Uday Praveen, chaired a review meeting to assess preparedness for the counting process, with a focus on the training schedule of counting personnel. The meeting was attended by Additional District Commissioners, the Election Officer, Assistant Commissioners and the Circle Officer, Kokrajhar.

It may be noted that the General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2026, was conducted across the state in a single phase on April 9 and the counting of votes will be held on May 4, 2026.

In Kokrajhar district, the election was held for five constituencies, namely Parbatjhora LAC, Gossaigaon, Dotma, Baukhungri and Kokrajhar LAC. Voter participation in the elections was higher than previous election records. The elections passed off smoothly and peacefully across the five constituencies.
