AGARTALA, May 3: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Asish Kumar Saha on Sunday criticised the BJP-led Manik Saha government for cancelling the entire process for appointment of 6,367 special executives without citing any reason.
The state Home department has issued a notification seeking applications for appointment of special executives to assist the police force in 2022. In a fresh notification on Saturday (May 2, 2026), it has cancelled the entire process and invited fresh applications for filling up of 6367 posts.
“This is nothing but cheating the unemployed youth of the state. When the recruitment drive was about to be completed, a notification was issued announcing that the entire interview process was cancelled without citing any reason,” Saha told reporters.
He said the police have invited fresh applications for the same number of posts of special executives by May 20.
“It is a ridiculous move by the BJP government. The government must tell the people why the entire process has been cancelled, ending a four-year wait. It seems the government uses the appointment drive as an election gimmick to win the electoral battle,” Saha said.
Accusing the government of reducing employment in the government sector, Saha said the Manik Saha government is pursuing the same policy adopted by the Modi government of slashing the government workforce by any means.
The TPCC chief claimed the number of state government employees has been downsized from 1,51,000 in 2017 to below one lakh in 2026. “It shows the government’s lack of willingness to address the unemployment problem, which has become a core issue in the northeastern state where industrialisation is yet to take place,” he said.
