DIPHU, June 10: The District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) volunteers under the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Karbi Anglong, conducted awareness programmes at Jaljuri–Jaluguti villages and Diphu Girls’ College on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience.
At Jaljuri Village, participants from both Jaljuri and Jaluguti villages attended a joint awareness session where DDRF volunteers demonstrated safety measures to be followed during disasters and emergencies, including the proper use of bandages for first aid.
A separate awareness programme was also organised at Diphu Girls’ College, Diphu, where students and faculty members were sensitised on disaster preparedness, emergency response, safety measures during disasters and the correct use of fire extinguishers.
During both programmes, the DDRF team explained the Cell Broadcast System (CBS), an emergency alert mechanism used for disseminating critical warnings and information. Participants were advised not to panic upon receiving CBS emergency alerts and were encouraged to carefully follow the instructions issued by the concerned authorities during emergencies.
The programmes witnessed active participation from villagers, students and faculty members, reflecting growing public interest in disaster risk reduction and preparedness initiatives.
