JORHAT, June 12: The Assam government has strengthened the security cover of Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi following intelligence inputs suggesting a possible threat to his life.
Gogoi, who is currently staying at Lukhurakhon village in Selenghat near Mariani after the demise of his mother last week, informed reporters on Friday that his security arrangements were enhanced from Wednesday.
According to Gogoi, six additional house guards have been deployed for his protection, while a pilot vehicle with six security personnel has also been provided.
The Sivasagar MLA said the move followed reports received by the state government regarding a potential threat to his life and an alleged conspiracy to target him.
Stating that the government had reviewed his security arrangements after receiving the intelligence inputs, Gogoi said police were searching for suspected shooters and had already detained one or two individuals for questioning.
The development comes amid heightened vigilance by security agencies following the reported threat assessment.
