TEZPUR, Sept 1: Saif Uddin Ahmed, visiting fellow, French language, department of Foreign Languages breathed his last on Tuesday at Guwahati while under treatment. He was 64 and was working as a visiting fellow since 2012. He worked with the department of English and Foreign Languages for close to a decade until 2019, when he moved out with the newly created department of Foreign Languages. He was not only a very persuasive teacher but also a conscientious and well-informed individual with multiple interests.
During his lifetime he was also a visiting faculty in the department of French at the University of Gauhati and also engaged himself as a skilled translator from French to English in various institutions and educational institutions.
Born on February 1, 1958, he completed his school education in Nagaon and graduated from Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati. In 1984, he went on to study for a postgraduate degree in International Communication Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. The educator, who was passionate about music as a student, was once an accomplished guitar player. After Switzerland, he enrolled for his PhD at the Sorbonne University in Paris where he acquired a fluency in French and was temporarily employed in various foreign academic and non-academic institutions.
With the passing away of Saif Uddin Ahmed, Assam lost a man with a rich background in French. He was survived by his elder brother Dr. Salim M Ali, a retired professor and writer from Germany, two brothers and four married sisters.
