DIPHU, Sept 14: A Kisan Mela and soil health card distribution programme was held at Kathkatia Village under Bokajan Agriculture Development officer (ADO) circle in Karbi Anglong.
In the ceremony attended by the ADO Udit Phukan, a total of 149 soil health cards were distributed among farmers. On the occasion, a discussion was held on the advantages and benefits of the soil health card and why farmers should follow the recommended dose of fertiliser to improve soil condition. Moreover, the application of organic fertilisers in the desired way and the amount were discussed. Sarkari Gaon Burah Purna Baruah addressed the gathering. He urged the farmers to go for scientific methods of cultivation.

It may be mentioned that the soil health card scheme is a scheme launched by the Government of India on 19th February, 2015. The Government of India plans to issue soil cards to farmers which will carry crop-wise recommendations of nutrients and fertilisers required for the individual farmer to help them improve productivity through judicious use of inputs. All samples of soils are sent to be tested in various soil testing labs across the country. In the next procedure, the experts of the field analyse the strengths and weaknesses (micro-nutrient deficiency) of the soil and suggest measures to deal with it. The result and suggestions will be displayed on the cards.
