KOKRAJHAR, Oct 27: The Bodoland Territorial Region districts (BTR) also joined in extending condolences on the demise of the eminent Assamese film actor and producer, Nipon Goswami who passed away on Thursday.
Notably, Goswami acted as an actor in more than 40 films in various languages including Assamese, Bengali, Hindi in his days and most of the films were scripted popular among the film loving people.
Various organisations including Bodo Sahitya Sabha, All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) condoled the demise of the veteran Assamese film director, actor, producer, Nipon Goswami who passed away on Thursday morning.
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief executive member, Pramod Boro extended his deep condolences and mourning on the passing away of the famous actor and producer.
In his condolence message, Boro said, “Nipon Goswami is an ideal example for those who work and want to work in the film industry. He acted in more than 40 films in his days.”
“The unexpected death of the timeless artist, Nipon Goswami has made me sad. Assam has lost an artist, a great hero. I pray for his eternal heavenly peace,” Boro added.
Assam cabinet minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma; MLA of Kokrajhar East LAC, Lawrence Islary; All Bodo Students Union president, Dipen Boro have extended their deep mourning and condolences over the demise of noted actor and film producer Nipon Goswami.
President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Taren Boro in a condolence message expressed deep condolence at the demise of the veteran Assamese film actor and said that it is a great loss for the Assamese film industry. “Assam lost a great film actor, producer and social activist with the death of Nipan Goswami,” Boro said.
He recalled the contributions and dedications of the noted film producer and actor, Goswami towards the upliftment and development of Assamese film world, who was associated with many cultural and social organisations in his days.
Our correspondent from Biswanath Chariali adds: Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS) condoled the untimely death of legendary Assamese cine artiste, iconic actor, popular figure of the state, Nipon Goswami who breathed his last on Thursday, in a press statement issued by Durga Khatiara, president, Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, working president and Madan Thapa, chief secretary of the literary body. Through the press release, the literary organisation of the state prayed for the eternal peace for the departed soul and conveyed heartfelt condolences for the bereaved family members as well.
Our correspondent from Demow adds: Nipon Goswami, a veteran as well as a renowned Assamese actor who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Guwahati passed away on Thursday.
The Demow Regional Students’ Union paid tribute to the veteran actor by lighting earthen lamps in front of the photo of Nipon Goswami at Demow Regional Students’ Union Office, situated in Demow Haripora Ali Road, on Thursday evening.

Our Tezpur correspondent adds: Different socio-cultural organisations across the state have mourned the death of the veteran actor of Assamese film industry, Nipon Goswami. Goswami left for his heavenly abode on Thursday morning around 9:15 am in a private nursing home in Guwahati.
Born to famous actor, Chandradhar Goswami and celebrated singer, Nirupama Goswami, on September 3, 1942 at Kalibari in Tezpur town in Sonitpur district, the veteran Assamese cine actor started his acting career as a stage performer and later established himself as a film actor.
He did his primary schooling from Kolibari LP School followed by moving to Tezpur Government Boys’ HS School. After completing his BA from Darrang College, he went to Calcutta for the interview in Pune Film Institute. In 1965, he joined acting training where he met Subhash Ghai, Navin Nichol, Shatrughan Sinha among others as his classmates. As a child artist in the movie Piyali Phukan, directed by Phani Sarmah, he debuted in the Assamese film industry in 1957. Sangram was his first Assamese film and hit movie as a lead actor. His movie, Dr Bezbaruah released in 1969 brought him recognition as a star to act in many movies. He also acted in few Hindi Movies. He was actively involved in mobile theatres including Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengul, and Shakuntala. He also acted in few TV serials like ‘Writu aahe writu jaai’.
In a condolence message, president and principal secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Kuladhar Saikia and Jadab Chandra Sarma expressed deep condolences over the sudden demise of Nipon Goswami, a legendary cultural figure of the state, veteran actor of Assamese cinema and the theatre. The duo said in the condolence message that the death of the prominent actor is an irreparable loss for the entire Assamese society, Assamese culture and cinema. The literary body has also expressed their deep condolence to the bereaved family.
Moreover, along with the district administration here frontline socio-cultural organization including Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Baan Theatre, Sonitpur Press Club, Sonitpur Journalist Union, All Assam Journalist Union, Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha, Sonitpur District ABSU, Sonitpur AASU, AJYCP among others have deeply mourned the death of the veteran actor.
Meanwhile, Sonitpur district administration paid rich tribute to the veteran actor with a ‘Shradhanjali’ programme organised in Jyoti Bharati (POKI) here on Thursday evening. The programme started with the lighting of lantern in front of the portrait of the great artiste by Prithiraj Rabha, MLA, Tezpur; Deba Kumar Mishra, deputy commissioner, Sonitpur; Aisharya Kakati, renowned writer, playwright and classmate of Nipon Goswami; prominent actor Arun Nath and Krishna Das Nath. During the programme, the contribution of the great artist was thoroughly remembered. Several organisations and individuals of Tezpur also paid their rich tribute to their beloved artist Nipon Goswami.
