DIPHU, Oct 30: Chhath Puja was celebrated in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong along with the rest of the nation on Sunday.
In Bakalia, Karbi Anglong the devotees thronged to the bank of Jamuna River at Jamuna Irrigation Channel to offer prayers to the Sun God in the evening of Sunday.
The occasion was attended by MP Horensing Bey, along with the local Member of Autonomous Council and executive member, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Madhuram Lekthe and other dignitaries.
In West Karbi Anglong, the devotees of the Sun God gathered on the banks of the Kapili River to offer prayers. With fruits, homemade eatables and flowers the devotees flocked to the river banks to offer prayers in the evening of Sunday.
Our Jorhat correspondent adds: Along with other parts of the state, devotees on Sunday celebrated Chhath Puja by offering prayers during sunset at different ghats of Bhogdoi river here.
Devotees were seen carrying huge bamboo trays laden with fruits and earthen lamps to pay obeisance to the Sun God at the ghats.
They also took a dip in the water and the venues were beautifully decorated with lights and mandaps in which idols of the Sun God on a chariot pulled by horses were installed.
The rush of people to the ghats this time seemed to be more than last year in view of lack of restrictions under Covid protocol that were in place earlier in view of the Covid pandemic situation. Organisers said that like pre-Covid years this time cultural functions will be organised in some of the ghats.
