DIPHU, Nov 2: The outbreak of dengue in Diphu, headquarter of Karbi Anglong district is threatening to take an endemic proportion with several confirmed deaths.

As per official data three Diphu residents have died due to dengue. Apart from the three, another Diphu resident died in a hospital in Dimapur, Nagaland a week ago.
Medical Officer and Microbiologist of District Public Health Laboratory, office of the joint director of Health Services, Dr Longminder Timung said that 123 people have tested positive for dengue. Nine male and 13 female patients were admitted in Diphu Medical College and Hospital and of them two were in ICU till Tuesday.
The doctor appealed to the people to take care of themselves by taking precautionary measures and help the health department in fighting the diseases.
The office of the joint director of Health Services has also carried out fogging in several areas including DC Colony, Sarthe Colony and Jhilpar.
The cases of dengue started coming in from the third week of October. The office of the chief superintendent, Diphu Medical College & Hospital had issued a notice on the rising cases of Dengue in Karbi Anglong district on October 28.
A general notice was issued to the people to take preventive measures like the use of mosquito nets during the day or night while sleeping, to wear full sleeve clothes while outdoors, keep the surroundings clean, getting rid of stagnant water and reporting any cases of fever, body ache, headache and bleeding from spots on the skin surface.
On November 1, the District Health Society, Karbi Anglong constituted a Dengue Rapid Action Team for screening, awareness and source reduction of dengue in Diphu.
A team for the monitoring of the Rapid Action Team was also constituted with eight specialists and two other doctors.
