GUWAHATI, Nov 3: The Department of Chemistry, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in active collaboration with the Shillong College, Shillong, has organised the first ever ‘Meghalaya Chemistry Olympiad-2022 (MCO-22)’ on Thursday at USTM Chemistry Department as well as at Shillong College.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Sarifuddin Gazi, head of the Department of Chemistry at USTM stated, “The response from the students and teachers from the participating schools is very encouraging. Out of 64 registered students in USTM Chemistry Department Centre, 60 attended, while in Shillong College Centre, out of 131 registered students, 125 attended”. The overall percentage of participation is 94.8 %, he added.
The results of the Chemistry Olympic will be declared on 14th of November 2022 while the felicitation of the successful students would be held in the second week of February 2023.
Dr Gazi expressed deep appreciation to all who contributed towards the success of the maiden ‘Meghalaya Chemistry Olympiad- 2022’, thereby inspiring the organisers to plunge into more such ventures in the future.
It could be mentioned here that this flagship programme is meant for the students of the classes VIII (eight), IX (nine), and XI (eleven) from schools in the State of Meghalaya. Planning is there to expand the Olympiad to the other States of the NE region in the next time.
