GUWAHATI, April 12: Railway officials from Lumding division of Northeast Frontier Railway conducted a promotional presentation with traders and business enterprises of Dimapur and Shokhuvi in Nagaland on April 9. The meeting was aimed to intimate them about the proposed commencement of loading and unloading operations of freight items at Shokhuvi goods terminal.

The meeting was conducted by senior officials of Lumding Division, NF Railway and was attended by major traders engaged in loading and unloading of stone, cement, pulses, salt and edible oil in the Dimapur region.

The participants were informed of the details of the recently commissioned railway freight terminal at Shokhuvi, located just 25 kms from Dimapur, with a full length Goods yard, well developed circulating area and modern lighting facilities. Field visit to the terminal was also organised, for a first-hand appraisal of the facilities offered in this new terminal for traders.

Despite being the second highest revenue earner for the Northeast Frontier Railway, Dimapur railway station in Nagaland is losing opportunities to be developed to its expected level as no expansion facilities can be undertaken because of encroachment of land in the vicinity of the station. As a result, economic activities in areas served by the Dimapur station, which includes parts of Assam, are also getting affected. The commencement of freight loading at Shokhuvi which is expected to begin soon will not only give a boost to efficient logistics and transportation in Nagaland but also enable more and more products from Nagaland to reach different parts of the country and beyond.

The meeting was successfully concluded with the strong commitment from both sides for overall socio-economic development of the vicinity through greater co-ordination and co-operation between Railways and different stakeholders.
