DIPHU, Nov 19: Convenor of Hills Tribal League, Khorsing Teron said, “Indigenous ethnic groups of Assam extend support to the Petition No. 567/2012 filed in the Supreme Court of India by Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha for the protection of the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.”
In a press conference at Karbi Students Association (KSA) office here, on Saturday, the convenor of Hills Tribal League, Khorsing Teron said, “The base year for identification of illegal immigrants, i.e., foreign nationals must be 1951 and no other date and year shall not be accepted.”
He further said, “We have faith in the Honourable Supreme Court and hope that the 5-member Constitutional Bench would pass judgment in favour of the protection of the rights of the indigenous people of Assam according to the Constitution of India and based on international law. If the Honourable Supreme Court fails to do so, the leaders shall be compelled to approach the United Nation for Justice.”
The press conference was attended by chairman HTL, Saising Rongpi; president of Kuki National Assembly, Thongthang Touthang; president of KSA, Thangsing Timung; general secretary of Karbi Students & Youth Council, Jevon Bey and president of Karbi Women Justice and Forum, Beaulet Beypi.
