DIPHU, Oct 16: Tuliram Ronghang, the chief executive member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), has strongly criticised JI Kathar, the president of the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), for labeling the Karbi Students Association (KSA) as the “Kidnappers Students Association”.
During a press conference held at the conference hall of the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA), Ronghang condemned Kathar for making such statements in a public meeting and tarnishing the reputation of the KSA. The CEM firmly rejected Kathar’s leadership and stated, “KSA is a non-political organization, and branding the KSA as the ‘Kidnappers Students Association’ is unethical. No one should disgrace or condemn the KSA. Kathar is not fit to lead the Karbi society and work for the good of the people. I strongly condemn him and reject his leadership.”
It’s worth noting that a week ago, the organising secretary of APHLC, Kursing Timung, criticised the KSA Thomson Rongpi faction for supporting the establishment of a Sainik School between Samelangso and Langlokso. Timung called for a boycott of the KSA, and in response, KSA members condemned Timung’s statement and demanded an apology.
During a mass joining program organised by APHLC on October 12, at 5th Miles Nihang Rongkethe Diphu-Manja road, the party president, JI Kathar, referred to the KSA as ‘Kidnappers Students Association’ in his speech, which subsequently went viral on social media.
In the press conference where he defended the KSA, the CEM emphasised, “The KSA, Karbi Lammet Amei, and Karbi Cultural Society are non-political organizations. No one should criticize or condemn the KSA. Personal attacks are one thing, but one should not tarnish the name of the KSA. Today, I am holding this press conference not as the CEM of KAAC or in the name of a political party, but as a former KSA leader. I hold deep respect and honor for the KSA, and I cannot defame or speak ill of the KSA. Kathar, without any moral sense, has denigrated the KSA. He should be disowned for creating disunity in our society.”
The CEM also shared his personal history with the KSA, highlighting his journey from a general member to an assistant general secretary and eventually the president of the Sub-Central of West Karbi Anglong, emphasising his commitment to upholding the KSA’s honor.
