Ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh announced by minister Jogen Mohan

DONGKAMUKAM, Nov 26: HAD minister of Assam, Jogen Mohan along with the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang visited the residence of slain home guard, Bidya Sing Lekthe on Saturday.

Home guard Lekthe was killed in the clash with a mob from Meghalaya in Mukroh in West Karbi Anglong in Assam-Meghalaya border. The CEM was in New Delhi because of the Lachit Divas celebrations and hence, could not visit the residence of late Lekthe earlier.

The CEM, describing the deceased home guard as a brave soldier, said that his statue will be erected at Mukroh at the place of incidence and a job will be offered to his wife. He also assured that a border outpost will be built soon.

HAD minister Jogen Mohan said that an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh will be paid by the government and another Rs 4 lakh will be paid by the Forest Department to the kin of Lekthe.

Earlier, Rs 5 lakh was handed over to the kin of Lekthe from KAAC by executive member, Amar Sing Tisso.

Late Lekthe’s village is Jaluklangteng Lekthe, in West Karbi Anglong which is 43 kms away from Dongkamukam. Connectivity is very poor and the village has 25 households. The village has a LP and ME school, and the nearest market is 17 kms away in Amtereng. The place does not have a mobile network.

MLA Rupsing Teron, DC of West Karbi Anglong, Krishna Barua; SP, Indranil Barua; forest officers and others also accompanied the delegation.
