Call to promote tourism potentials of Karbi Anglong gets louder

Police department ready to provide security to tourists

DIPHU, Dec 20: In order to promote tourism in Karbi Anglong, the district administration and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) organised an interaction with tour operators at Diphu Circuit House here on Tuesday.

The interaction event was attended by several renowned persons of Karbi Anglong and they shared the potential of tourism of Karbi Anglong.

Senior journalist Sanju Bora said, “The tourism potential of Karbi Anglong is very rich and some areas are still unexplored where flora and fauna are found. We have abundant resources in the district as well. Besides, numerous beautiful and attractive waterfalls are a blessing to nature. Tourism can be promoted such as eco-tourism, adventure tourism, cultural tourism and wildlife tourism. The attractive things which are available in other places are also available in Karbi Anglong like monuments, museums and waterfalls.”

The Assam Gaurav awardee and Everesteer Khorsing Terang also share about the trekking potentiality of Karbi Anglong and said, “There are many good places for trekking and hiking and as I am associated with mountaineering experiences for the last 20 years, and still in there are unexplored places as Karbi Anglong is the biggest district in Assam.”

“Singhason hill is one of the highest peaks in the district and recently we trekked in the region. Next year before the mega event of Karbi Youth Festival we plan to organize trekking packages to Singhason peak,” he said.

Karbi Anglong superintendent of police, Sanjib Kumar Saikia, said that normalcy has returned in the region.

“Earlier there was the militancy problem in Karbi Anglong but now they have surrendered so there is no threat to security,” he said, assuring that security will be arranged for the tourists from their end.

The interaction programme was attended by deputy commissioner of Karbi Anglong, Madhusmita Bhagawati, actor Rajib Kro, and several others.

The delegation of tour operators who met with district administration and Karbi Anglong include Tour Operators of Association of Assam (TOAA); Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO); Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WICCC) and Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India.
