Assam: Demand to keep status quo of Hojai district

HOJAI, Jan 2: Criticising the recent decision of Assam government to merge Hojai district with Nagaon district, different organisations and individuals in Hojai held demonstrations showcasing their protest. They are demanding to keep the district status quo of Hojai.

Notably, hundreds of volunteers of CPI(M), Hojai gathered at district headquarter Sankardev Nagar on Monday and showcased their protest vehemently.

Holding placards and banners, they raised slogans against the BJP government.

Jugeswar Das, general secretary, CPI(M) Hojai district said, “We condemn the decision of the government. Our protest will continue till Hojai gets its status as a district again.”

CPI(M) Hojai district unit member Narayan Debnath, Anu Rezal and others also echoed the same.

On the other hand, under the aegis of Congress, Hojai district unit, a mass signature campaign was initiated against the BJP government’s move.

The Congress volunteers demonstrated near Netaji corner at J.K Kedia Road in Hojai and raised their voice against the recent move of the government to merge Hojai district with Nagaon along with other three districts namely Biswanath district with Sonitpur, Bajali with Barpeta and Tamulpur with Baksa district. The Congress volunteers also forwarded a memorandum to Assam Governor regarding this matter.
