SIVASAGAR, Jan 30: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, on Sunday, presented the model of the ‘Rangghar Beautification Project’ to the distinguished citizens of the town through a PowerPoint presentation for their approval and suggestions for improvement.
Addressing the gathering in the ‘Sivasagar Yuva Dal Auditorium’ here, the Chief Minister said that Rs 31.8 crore has been released for acquiring 83 bigha of land around the historic Rangghar. The project includes the construction of an amphitheater with seating capacity of 7,000 people; a guest house; a pool for water sports, and a cultural village.

Replying to queries, Dr Sharma informed the gathering that the government has taken up the Rangghar project on a priority basis as it symbolizes Assamese pride and nationalism. He hoped that in the subsequent years the historic Talatal Ghar could also be brought under the government’s historical site beautification programme.
Earlier, Minister for Education — who is also the Guardian Minister of the constituency — Dr Ranuj Pegu dwelt on the objectives of the meeting.
Among the host of other dignitaries present in the meeting were Tourism Minister Pallob Lochan Baruah; Urban Development Minister Ashok Singhal; Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan; MP Jorhat –Topon Kr Gogoi; MP (Rajya Sabha) — Pabitra Margherita; Â Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain; and president of Sivasagar district BJP Mayur Borgohain.
Kartick Dutta, Deben Chandra Baruah, Manoj Kumar Borthakur, Dr Saumerjyoti Mahanta, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Sarat Hazarika, Dr Tridib Mahanta, Dr Utpal Datta, Samiran Phukan, Punaram Mili, Basanta Gogoi, Litul Buragohain, and Ganga PD Borgohain extended suggestions for improvement of the beautification project.
