JORHAT, Jan 31:Â The Court of Special Judge, Jorhat, sentenced a person to 20 years rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of raping a minor girl.
The Additional Jorhat District and Sessions Judge Anurag Jintoo Borah in the capacity as Special Judge on Monday while convicting Janti Das, under Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012, sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

In default of payment of the fine Das will have to undergo simple imprisonment of one month. The judge also directed the District Legal Services Authority, Jorhat, to pay adequate compensation to the victim.
Das, a resident of a village under Pulibor police station, on the outskirts here, was found guilty of raping a minor of his neighborhood, on August 7, 2020 after taking her to a place on a motorbike.
The mother of the victim had lodged the FIR at the police station against Das, a married man, after which police investigated the matter and took lawful action. Altogether six witnesses were examined during the trial by the court.
