Assam all set to host series of G20 events

GUWAHATI, Jan 31: Assam is all set to host 1st Sustainable Financial Working Group meeting and Youth 20 Inception meeting as part of India’s year-long G20 presidency.

The theme for G20 is ‘One Earth. One Family. One Future’ with the motto “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.

The 1st Sustainable Financial Working Group (SFWG) meeting will be held at Hotel Radisson Blu in Guwahati on February 2-3.

The two-day meeting will be attended by 94 delegates from the member countries of G20, guest countries, different international organisations and also officials from the government of India, an official statement said.

The agenda of the first day programme includes a yoga session and three SFWG sessions. The first day programme will end with river cruise and ‘Ratri bhoj par samvaad’ and cultural events.

The programme on the second day will also contain a yoga session, three side event sessions, four SFWG sessions and conclude with dinner for delegates at Brahmaputra Heritage Centre.

The Youth 20 Inception meeting will be attended by 250 delegates on February 7-8, 2023 at Hotel Radisson Blu and IIT, Guwahati. Moreover, 400 students of various academic institutions of Assam will also participate in the Youth 20 Inception meeting.

This is the first of the various meetings to be held on the five Y 20 themes across India in a run-up to the final Y 20 summit in August 2023.

The Youth 20 meeting will focus on these themes – Peace Building and Reconciliation, Future of Work Industry, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, Youth in Democracy and Governance, Health Wellbeing and Sports.

“The state has completed its preparation to welcome the foreign delegates to Assam. Guwahati is adorned with digital wall painting, thematic gates, flags of G20 countries, LED cut-outs, standees, hoardings, etc., as part of branding and beautification,” the statement said.

Preparations for the visit by the delegates to places of importance, like Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Garbhanga Reserve Forest and the sandbar of Brahmaputra, have been completed, it said.

“This meticulously chalked out tour programme will help in promoting the rich bio-diversity and socio-cultural heritage in the international arena,” the statement added.

Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on Twitter a video of a traditional musical performance at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here to welcome the delegates and hoped that the guests will enjoy their visit.

“Welcome to India – land of incredible diversity, beauty and glorious past. The G20 delegates are accorded a very warm welcome at the Guwahati airport with a fine display of our local culture. You shall relish your stay at Awesome Assam,” he wrote on the microblogging site.
