Senior citizens’ forum has urged the police administration to take stern action against the unruly bikers

SIVASAGAR, Jan 31: Youths doing motorbike-stunts in the streets of Sivasagar town have become a serious threat to all pedestrians and bicycle riders. As the police administration appears to be busy collecting fines from the erring riders and vehicle drivers under the new dispensation, these bike riders scuttling down the roads in hair-splitting speed have so far caused injury to a number of elderly pedestrians who are now recuperating in the hospitals.
Meanwhile, the senior citizens’ forum has urged the police administration to take stern action against these unruly bikers.
Retired ONGC officer Khagendranath Saikia died recently as a biker hit him in front of hotel in the centre of the historic town. Sivasagar, being a small old town with narrow streets burdened with mushrooming cars, and this factor has also proved to a cause of ordeal for senior citizens if they have to go out into the streets to do their daily chores.
Especially during school hours, such unruly youths doing bike stunts cause serious problems for the students and their parents especially near the Sibsagar Girls’ College, Commerce College, Gadhula Brown Memorial School, Sivasagar Govt HS, and Fuleswari Girls’ HS School
It’s a matter of surprise as to why the authorities concerned are not taking stern action against such activities.
It hardly needs reiteration that with the wine shops, and unlicensed wine-selling booths mushrooming everywhere, it has become a fashion among the youths to drink and drive at the same time.

Pran-Pratishtha’ of Hanuman mandir

BAKALIA, Jan. 31: The religious programme –‘Pran-Pratishtha’ – will be held of Sri Hanuman Mandir at Rongnagar Chauhan Bastihere with a two-day programme from February 2.
According to the programme, a procession knowm as the ‘Kalash Yatra’ will be taken out. On the occasion, devotees would collect water from the Jamuna River. The Idol of Mahavir Hanuman will be installed in the temple on the first day.
The ceremony will culminate with ‘Purnahuti’ on February 4. The rituals will be performed under the guidance of Acharya Harendra Shukla of Ayodhya.
Among the dignitaries invited for the programme are Executive Members (EM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Amarsing Tisso and Madhuram Lekthe, as well as KAAC Deputy-Speaker Ajit Kr Dey..
The Hanuman temple was founded by the villagers in 1989 with donations. Last year, EM of KAAC, Amarsing Tisso also extended government funds for building the temple.
