Drunk man kill wife at Mahur in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Feb 11: In a shocking incident, a drunk man allegedly killed her wife on Thursday night at Namzeurang village under Mahur police station in Dima Hasao district.

On receiving the information, police rushed to the spot in a wee hour on Friday and arrested the accused. The accused was identified as Paujenang Jeme (25) while the victim was identified Tete Khongsai (22). The culprits have been book at Mahur P.S case no 3/2023 under section 302 IPC. The body have been sent to Haflong Civil hospital for autopsy.

Speaking to this correspondent, Mahur P.S OC Utpal Gogoi said that they rush to spot on receiving on the incident on Friday morning at around 3.30 am.

“On enquiring the neighbors, we have learnt that the couple got married three years ago and often had a quarrel and last night might be due to inebriation the quarrel went so far that leads to killing. The accused have admitted to his crime and will be produces before the district court on Saturday. We have also recovered a piece of wood which we suspects that was use in the crime. However, our investigation on to excavate more information.” Added Gogoi.

Meanwhile, the social organization and the local women body have condemned the incident and demanded a stern action against the culprits.

“We were shocked to hear about the incident since such heinous crime has never occurred in our town. There are injury marks all over the body of the victim. I get the jitters to narrate the recovery of the body especially because I’m also a woman. We suspect the involvement of more than one person,” said a member of the women’s organisation.

“We demand a proper inquiry into the incident and want capital punishment for those involved in the heinous crime. They should be awarded life imprisonment. They should not be allowed bail since such a person can commit similar crimes once again.” She added.
