TEZPUR, Feb 11: Noted writer, educationist, literary pensioner  and a founder member of Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti  Mrinali Chetia passed away last night at around 10.30 Pm at Nemcare Hospital here. She was 87. Born in 1936 in Golaghat late Mrinali Chetia did her schooling from Tezpur Government Girls Higher Secondary School during fifties and after completing her graduation from Tezpur Darrang College, she joined in the Tezpur Government Girls’ Higher secondary school beginning her career as a teacher.
In between her teaching profession she took her Masters’ degree in Political science and B.Ed degree from Gauhati University. Honoured with national award for her commendable service towards education, Chetia served Tezpur Government Girls Higher Secondary school for a long stint and retired as principal of the frontline girls’ school of the northern belt in 1995.
She was connected with several socio-cultural, educational and literary organizations alongwith Asam Lekhika Samaroh samiti. Grand daughter of Asam Sahitya Sabha’s first president Padmanath Gohain Baruah, late Chetia  served  the Tezpur chapter of Asam Lekhika Samaroh constantly for a decade and was dedicatedly connected with Asamiya Bhasa Unnati Sadhini Sabha  , Tezpur Nari Silpa Samittee, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Padmanath Gohain Baruah Sahitya Sabha, Itihas Sankalan Samittee, Tezpur Sahitya Kanan and Baan Theatre etc.
Late Chetia besides a number articles she had written over ten books including bare-rahaniya geetar sarai, surujmukhir sapon,prabandha kanan, Sikshabodh,  jiban nadir gaan, kabi kantha, kamdev kandarpa kumar, galpa manjusa, bivinna kathar kanan and mur saisawar sonal smirtit kakadeuta padmanath gohainbarua (autobiography). Different organizations and individuals mourned the death of the noted woman.
