DIBRUGARH, Feb 21: Two youths assaulted a doctor at his residence here following a Facebook comment.

The injured doctor has been identified as Geetartha Saikia of Boiragimoth, Dibrugarh. Dr Geetartha has been doing his internship at a hospital in Majuli. He is also a singer and recently he released a song on YouTube.
Meanwhile, Geetartha’s family members have filed an FIR at Gabarupathar police outpost.
The injured doctor is undergoing treatment at a Dibrugarh hospital.
Geetartha is the son of Kiran Saikia and Ruma Saikia of Boiragimoth, Dibrugarh.
Talking to media persons on Tuesday, the father of Geetartha said, “Yesterday, two youths came to our house and asked for Geetartha.”
“I enquired as to why they need Geetartha. One of them told me that they were friends of Geetartha. Then, I told them to come inside the house; but they refused to do so. In the meantime, Geetartha came out from his house to meet them; it was then that the duo started assaulting him without any reason. They assaulted him brutally. Though he got senseless yet they didn’t stop. When I intervened, they fled away in a car,” he said.
The doctor sustained injuries on his head, ear and other parts of his body. He is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
One of the youths who assaulted Geetartha, has been identified as Debraj Borgohain.
Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, “Geetartha was assaulted due to some Facebook posts. A case was registered at Gabarupathar police outpost and we are investigating the matter. Till now, no arrest has been made in connection with the case.”
