Assam Rifles Seize Huge Consignment Of Contraband From Indo-Myanmar Border

IMPHAL, March 14 (NNN): Troops of Assam Rifles, while foiling a bid to smuggle illegal drugs from Myanmar at the Indo-Myanmar border, recovered 20 kg of WY tablets abandoned by an alleged drug smuggler here.

Quoting a report of the 5 Assam Rifles, a police source said that the troops recovered the drugs from a place near the Indo-Myanmar border pillar no 79.

 

The police source also said that the troops were on a close watch to the cross border movement of drug smugglers near the border pillar based on specific information.

When a person with a cartoon box was entering the Indian territory by crossing the border from Myanmar side, the troops challenged him to stop for checking.

 

However, the person ran back toward the Myanmar side leaving behind the cartoon box which was found to be full of illegal WY tablets upon checking.

The seized WY tablets weighing 20.625 kg together with the cartoon box would be worth over Rs 10 crore (international market value), the police source further said.

The seized drugs were later handed over to Moreh police station after lodging a case, the source said.

 

Meanwhile, police in Tengnoupal district arrested a person along with 2.987kg of brown sugar.

The arrested person was identified as Seiminlal Baite (29) of Moreh town, the police said.

 

The person was arrested after the police on duty at Tengnoupal police station check post along NH-102 intercepted the illegal drugs in 72 soap cases during a check to an auto-rickshaw driven by the nabbed person coming from Moreh side, the police added.
