IMPHAL, March 14 (NNN): Troops of Assam Rifles, while foiling a bid to smuggle illegal drugs from Myanmar at the Indo-Myanmar border, recovered 20 kg of WY tablets abandoned by an alleged drug smuggler here.
Quoting a report of the 5 Assam Rifles, a police source said that the troops recovered the drugs from a place near the Indo-Myanmar border pillar no 79.
The police source also said that the troops were on a close watch to the cross border movement of drug smugglers near the border pillar based on specific information.
When a person with a cartoon box was entering the Indian territory by crossing the border from Myanmar side, the troops challenged him to stop for checking.

The seized drugs were later handed over to Moreh police station after lodging a case, the source said.
Meanwhile, police in Tengnoupal district arrested a person along with 2.987kg of brown sugar.
The arrested person was identified as Seiminlal Baite (29) of Moreh town, the police said.
