IMPHAL, Nov 12 (NNN): Security forces in Manipur have apprehended two alleged drug smugglers with contraband drugs worth over Rs 26 crore in the international market, official sources said on Friday.
A police said that a team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested an alleged drug smuggler along with one lakh pieces of WY tablets.
The police estimated the seized drug at over Rs 25 crore in the international market. The arrested drug smuggler has been identified as Phundreimayum Abdul Hadee (35) of Thoubal district.
He was arrested after the contraband drugs were found in the car he came with during a frisking and checking operation at Lilong Arapti Thongkhong under Irilbung police station of Imphal East on Thursday night, around 10 pm, the police said.
The contraband drugs were found concealed in the car, the police said.
The police also said that the police commando team was there on random frisking and checking as a part of preventive measures taken up in connection with the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival.
The arrested person along with the seized contraband drugs has been handed over to Irilbung police station for taking up necessary legal action against him.
In another incident, troops of 20 Assam Rifles manning a check post along Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102 at Khudengthabi apprehended a driver after 640 gram of brown sugar was found in the vehicle he was driving on Thursday afternoon, around 2:30 pm.
The nabbed driver was identified as Thangkhopou (39), a resident of Churachandpur district headquarters.
The arrested person along with the seized drugs has been handed over to Moreh police station where a case was lodged against him.
The police estimated the seized drug worth over Rs 1.28 crore in the international market.
