GUWAHATI, March 18: Terror gripped Panitola Village in Assam’s Tinsukia after a horrifying gas leak incident took place on Saturday. The gas emissions from the Assam Gas Company have given rise to fear amongst the residents of the village. Nevertheless, no measure has been taken yet by the Assam Gas Company pertaining to the matter so far.
It may be noted that on March 9, this year, the residents of Baghjan lodged an FIR against Oil India Limited (OIL) after an incident of gas condensate discharge was registered from an oil well. As per reports, a day prior to this, uncontrollable gas condensate discharged from an oil well owned by OIL.
According to the information received, a technical issue caused the gas leakage at a suction pipe on the surface level of the BGI well in Baghjan. OIL public relations officer Bhairab Bhuyan stated that a technical glitch was spotted as the well was being set up for production resulting in gas leakage. After sealing the well, the leakage was immediately stopped by technical specialists, according to Bhuyan. Residents of the area have urged the government to discontinue all drilling activities until safety precautions are taken in the region.
