Rongali Bihu celebrated at Rangapara College

TEZPUR, April 23: Rangapara College fraternity celebrated the Rongali Bihu, on Thursday. The celebration started with a clearance drive by the students of Rangapara College followed with the flag hosting by the principal of Rangapara College Dr Ranjan Kalita.
The Bihu toil or the open arena arranged in the college field was inaugurated by Baap Dinesh Mahanta, who is the president of Mahapurush Sankardev Naamdharma Samaj, Assam. Students from Mercy Student Home, an orphanage adopted by Rangapara College also joined the occasion as special invitees. Two Bihu teams namely ‘Jaajiporiya Bihua Dol’ from Sivasagar and ‘Bihoguri Kalita Gaon Anchalik Semonia Dol’ from Sonitpur performed in front of the gathering. The Bodo community students of the college also performed the Bagurumba dance. The main celebration started at 1:30 pm where Deba Kumar Mishra, deputy commissioner of Sonitpur district, joined as the chief guest. Commanding officer, Col. Sebastian Jakharia and Col. Nandan, both from the Dogra Regiment, Rangapara Sonitpur, joined the celebration as special guests with their family. Nishinath Sharma, block development officer, Rangapara also joined the celebration.
The function ended with the Bihu performance by the college family. All the guests were greeted with a fulam gamusa and served Bihu jalpan.
