HOJAI, April 19: “Our culture and tradition teaches us to respect everyone,” said Anup Kumar Barthakur, secretary, Ankur Sangha, during the two-day Rongali Bihu celebration organised by Ankur Sangha at Bishnupally in Hojai on April 16 and 17.
He said on the occasion of Bihu honoring elders by the new generation is an age old Assamese tradition. He said that it is our responsibility to aware new generation of our traditions and culture. This year at Ankur Sangha younger generation honoured Basanti Barua, Akbar Ali, Kalpana Devi Goswami, Charu Borkatki, Bina Borkatki, Tarini Borkatki, Birendra Borkatki and Prabhav Saikia.
On the first day, the programme was inaugurated by Bipul Chandra Sharma, working president, Ankur Sangha; flag of the Sangha was hoisted by educationist Maghiram Saikia then the flag of bihu was hoisted by Dayal Chandra Kro, president, Hojai Sahitya Sabha. Then, the lamp was lighted in front of the bust of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, followed with garlanding and floral tributes by everyone present.
During these two days many traditional games and sports were organised in which people from all age groups took part with lots of enthusiasm and excitement. The conclusion of the event marked enthralling cultural evening in which local artist and kids performed. Local legislator Ram Krishna Ghosh graced as chief guest in the cultural evening. Ghosh greeted everyone on the occasion of Bihu. Notably, People from all the walks of life marked their attendance and supported in organising the programme smoothly.
