NAGAON, April 26: As a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the department of Political Science, Dhing College in collaboration with Bhartiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti organised a two-day long national seminar on ‘Integrating the Nation: Synthesising Concept and Praxis’ on Friday and Saturday last.
The seminar sponsored by Indian Council of Historical Research and convened by Kangkana Sharma of department of Political Science dealt with the notion of national integration from various vantage points. The welcome address of the seminar was given by the principal of Dhing College and noted historian Dr Biman Hazarika. The chief guest of the seminar was Prof Jayanta Krishna Sarmah, HoD of department of Political Science who focused on good governance which had other pre-requisites of making a ‘nation’. The guest of honour of the seminar was Dr Chetna Sharma, who is an associate professor of Kamala Nehru College of Delhi University. She linked the notion of national integration to national security and how the notion of ‘border’ is used to reinforce the same. The seminar also had Prof Gajendranath Adhikary from Centre for North-Eastern Studies, Srimanta Sankardev University, Guwahati unit; Dr Sagar Baruah, ex-principal of Khagarijan College; Dr Indra Narayan Mahanta, retired associate professor of Kaliabor College, and Hemanta Mazumdar, pramukh, Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti stressed on different aspects of the idea of nation and its integration.
A total of 30 papers were presented by scholars from various parts of the country including Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Manipur University, Gauhati University, Nowgong College and from many other institutions. The president of governing body, Dinesh Chandra Nath was the chief guest for the valedictory session. The seminar was moderated by Syeda Umme Tasneem from the department of English and it ended with the vote of thanks from the HoD of department of Political Science, Ranjit Bordoloi, a release added.
